My Essential Journeys Story
Certainly a woman who lived in the Alaskan wilderness for five years with no electricity or running water understands the importance of a fine slice of soap! As the Essential Journeys™ logo for her company illustrates, Kimberly is a bicycle enthusiast whose passion for the sport has taken her on a self-contained cross-country bicycle tour along with many other long distance bike tours. Kimberly has also guided bicycle tours in Alaska and throughout the lower 48 states.
My life has been a journey of passions—mine are travel and using my hands to create. I have spent years living and traveling across the United States, from Alaska to Florida, Asia to Nepal and Central America.
Now, I make my home in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, the place where I learned the art of soap making and began another chapter in my journey.
Memories of the crisp air of Alaska, the rich textures of Thailand, and the Blue Ridge Mountains of my home inspire the innovative designs and luxurious scents you will discover in Essential Journeys handcrafted soap. I look forward to adventures yet to come: journeys in new countries, and journeys in the mountains of my backyard.
My wish for you is that Essential Journeys™ soaps inspire your passions!
All the best,
Kimberly Masters

Women and Bicycles
The 1890’s brought mass-production of affordable bicycles, and also allowed women to pedal themselves into a new era of freedom and mobility. Suddenly a woman could explore under her own power, limited only by her desire to see the world and make her own adventures. Bicycling helped propel the women’s rights movement in ways no one could have imagined.
In fact, American suffragist Susan B. Anthony said in a New York World interview on February 2, 1896, that the bicycle "has done more to emancipate women than anything else in the world."
Essential Journeys™ Tackles Recycling
As a responsible member of our local and global community, Essential Journeys™ is proud to do our part to reduce waste, reuse resources, and recycle materials. Over 75% of our shipping is done with recycled boxes. Almost 100% of the packing materials in the boxes are collected from local businesses and reused. This helps to reduce the impact on our landfills and minimize our need for new paper products.
